One Successful Weekend: Homes for our Troops (HFOT) Build Brigade (April 30- May 2)

On the frigid morning of April 30th, the Build Brigade began as planned with an opening ceremony and the standing of the initial pre-cut walls. Tacking those up those walls in no time at all, the group of dedicated handymen and volunteers worked vigorously and diligently in less than desirable weather conditions that consisted of the occasional snow flurry or two. General Contractor for the job, Aaron Lovelace, could be found running all over the site and assisting at every level. LCpl Kade Hinkhouse and wife, Becky Hinkhouse, were never far from the site offering assistance, interviews, photo opportunities, and incredible moral support!

The first day proved to be a terrific success- - in fact one for the HFOT books! By the end of the first day, all wooden trusses were set and in place, which is an incredible accomplishment never achieved before at HFOT. Douglass Colony Group provided a crane and crane operator for the weekend that proved to be a tremendous time saver and a huge relief to those setting the wooden trusses. Setting and securing them quickly as the winds started to pick up later in the day was no easy feat but seem to be easily achieved through the determination of the volunteers.

News crews were abundant and their visits were frequent over the weekend. Channel 9, Channel 4, Channel 7, Fox 31, and the Denver Post were on-hand for interviews and video footage of the job site progress. Hopefully, some of you caught the Channel 9 News Saturday evening; The HFOT project was highlighted and Douglass Colony Group was featured in the interview!

All crews, handymen, and volunteers did an extraordinary job the entire weekend working around the clock to make this house come together. The donation of time, supplies, and labor was remarkable and the community support in the little town of Elizabeth (population 500) was incredible! A big thank you goes out to all who helped!

All soldiers that serve in warring nations are to be commended and truly appreciated for their heroic efforts and helping to preserve our nation's freedom. LcPl Kade Hinkhouse is a true hero and this is just one small way we can show him gratitude for all that he has given to our country.
Douglass Colony Group will continue to assist on this project by completing the roofing installation and installing the Crystalline, ground mount solar display in the coming months. When completed, the house will be certified as LEED Gold.
