It's hard to believe that we are now in the midst of a new decade, but 2010 projections seem to support a promising year to come. Michael Gifford, Executive Director of AGC Colorado, states "Overall the economy is showing signs of growth. Now we just need to see when construction will benefit from this change in fortunes. Private construction was down 20% last year nationally. Bright spots for private construction looking forward are hospitals and energy projects. Public construction spending was up 2% last year driven by the economic stimulus and state & local infrastructure projects. Public construction should hold steady in 2010. The good news is that GDP grew in the 3rd quarter and is forecasted to continue in 2010. Areas to watch are the end of construction material price decreases, as prices are now starting to increase again. Another area to watch is if private lending will let loose this year ." As the economic climate of Colorado and the rest of the nation stabilizes in 2010, we look forward to good things to come!
